Short answer
Run your own booking page with live availability, the full price upfront and a card or prepayment taken online, then put its link on your Google Business Profile, in every WhatsApp reply, on your website and with partner hotels.
Keep brokers for demand you cannot reach yourself: SamBoat publishes a 20% commission and Getmyboat 11.5–14.5%, while the big car brokers do not publish supplier rates.

The arithmetic is simple. A EUR 300 boat day sold through a platform that keeps 20% leaves you EUR 240. The same day booked on your own page leaves you EUR 300, minus your card processing fee. Brokers are still worth having for customers who would never find you, but every customer who could have found you, on Google, through a hotel or because they rented last year, should land on a page where you keep the margin and the customer's email.
What do brokers actually charge?
Only some of them publish it. Here is what each says on its own pages, checked on 15 September 2026:
| Broker | What it publishes for suppliers |
|---|---|
| SamBoat (boats) | 20% of each rental, 10% on extras paid online or mandatory |
| Getmyboat (boats) | 11.5% for US transactions, 14.5% international; the renter pays a separate fee |
| Click&Boat (boats) | A percentage per owner agreement, not published; the renter also pays a booking fee |
| Rentalcars.com (cars) | No rate on its public supplier page; you register interest and it is agreed later |
| DiscoverCars (cars) | No supplier terms on its public partner page |
Click&Boat is candid that the price the renter sees already includes both its booking fee and your commission. Getmyboat's 14.5% international rate includes 3 points it says cover currency exchange. For the car brokers, the only reliable number is the one in your own contract: open it and write down the percentage and what it applies to (base rate only, or extras and insurance too).
Is it worth moving bookings away from brokers?
Not all of them. Weigh what each channel actually does for you:
- A broker brings demand. A tourist searching "car hire Málaga airport" meets a comparison site long before your name. That booking would not exist without it.
- A direct booking keeps the margin and the relationship. You get the customer's email and phone, you set the cancellation terms, and next summer they can book you again without the broker taking its share a second time.
So the aim is not zero broker bookings. It is that nobody who already knows you pays a broker's price to reach you. Look at last season: every returning customer, hotel referral and Google Maps visitor who came through a broker is margin you gave away.
Which channels bring direct bookings?
- Your own booking page. The destination every other channel points to. Without it, "direct" means a WhatsApp thread and a bank transfer.
- Google Business Profile. People search "scooter rental" plus a town and pick from the map. Your profile can carry a booking link, and your reviews there are what make them click.
- WhatsApp. Most small operators already take bookings in chats. Reply with your booking page link instead of quoting by hand, and the customer sees real availability and the full price.
- Repeat customers. They already trust you. An email before next season with your booking link costs nothing.
- Hotels, campsites and marinas. Front desks get asked every day. Give them a card with your link and agree in writing what you pay them per booking, if anything.
What does a booking page need to convert?
A visitor who lands on your page and has to message you to ask whether the car is free has not really been given a booking page. Check yours against this list:
- Real availability. Only vehicles that are actually free for the chosen dates, taken from the calendar you work from. A page that shows a car you rented out yesterday creates a customer you have to disappoint.
- The total price before details. Base rate, season, extras and fees added up for the dates chosen, before you ask for a name. Deposit shown separately, with the amount.
- Terms in plain sight. Cancellation policy, minimum driver age, what the deposit covers.
- Money or a card at booking. A booking with nothing behind it is the easiest one to no-show; see no-shows.
- A quick answer. Instant confirmation is best; if you confirm by hand, confirm within hours, not days.
- A phone-first layout. Most rental searches happen on holiday, on a phone.
This is what Renviq's booking page does, so here is exactly how. Your fleet gets a public page at renviq.io/b/ followed by your name, which you can also embed in your own site with one line of code, or show as a button on builders like Wix that will not host it. It lists only vehicles free for the chosen dates and prices them with the same dynamic pricing the back office quotes from, including seasons, extras and fees. The deposit appears as a separate "due at pick-up" line, and your cancellation policy, minimum driver age and rental terms are on the page. The interface is available in 9 languages; vehicle and extra names appear as you typed them.
What it does not do: confirm instantly. Each booking arrives as a request in your bookings calendar, tagged as online. The vehicle is held for that customer while you decide (you can switch the hold off), and if you do not answer within your response window, 24 hours by default, the request is cancelled and the customer is emailed. The page is included in every plan, Free included, but on the Free plan email notifications are off, so you see new requests only in the dashboard.
Should your direct price be lower than the broker's?
Before you touch prices, read each broker contract for any clause about the prices you publish on other channels. Then work out what you actually net per channel:
| Same EUR 300 booking | You receive |
|---|---|
| Via a broker at 20% | EUR 240 |
| Direct, 10% discount | EUR 270, less card processing |
| Direct, same price | EUR 300, less card processing |
Even a visible discount leaves you ahead. If you would rather not show a gap, add value only direct bookers get: a free additional driver, a lower deposit, free child seat. Keep your daily rate and seasons in one place, so the page, the phone quote and the counter agree; see seasonal pricing.
How much should the customer pay online?
Three workable set-ups, from loosest to firmest:
- Nothing at booking. Lowest friction, highest no-show risk. Fine for a quiet shoulder season.
- A card saved at booking. The customer saves a card on a secure payment page before the request reaches you. You can later hold the deposit on it or charge it.
- A prepayment. The customer authorises a percentage of the total when booking; it is captured only when you confirm.
In Renviq these are the three checkout options of the booking page. The card and prepayment options need your own Stripe account connected in Settings → Payments: money lands in your Stripe balance, and Stripe charges its processing fees to you directly. Renviq takes no per-booking commission: its platform fee on card payments is 0% on every plan, and that settings page shows the rate that applies to you. A prepayment is released if you decline the request or it expires. For holding the deposit before pick-up, see card deposit holds.
How to set it up, step by step
List last season's bookings by channel
For each broker, count bookings, revenue and commission paid. Mark the customers who already knew you: repeat renters, hotel referrals, people who called after finding you on Maps.
Build the booking page
Load your vehicles, locations with opening hours, prices, seasons and extras. In Renviq, a location needs coordinates before it can take online bookings, so check the address pin.
Write the terms customers see
Cancellation window and penalty, minimum driver age, deposit amount, what is included. Short sentences; this text is what stops messages asking the same question.
Choose what the customer pays online
Nothing, a saved card or a prepayment percentage. Connect Stripe first if you want either of the last two.
Put the link everywhere a customer meets you
Google Business Profile booking link, your website (embed or button), Instagram bio, your WhatsApp quick reply, email signature, the card you hand to hotels.
Answer requests within hours
Set a response window you can keep and turn on email notifications on your phone. A request confirmed in 20 minutes is almost as good as instant.
Ask for a review after every return
Google lets you copy a review link or print a QR code under Read reviews, then Get more reviews. Send it to everyone, not only the happy ones.
Check the split every month
Compare direct and broker bookings and the commission you paid. In Renviq every booking carries its source (online, phone, walk-in, partner), so the split is a filter, not a spreadsheet.
How do you get the Google booking button?
In your Google Business Profile, on Google Search choose Booking, or on Google Maps choose Edit profile and the booking option. Then Add link, paste your booking page address and Save. Google allows up to 10 links per category, so a broker's link may sit next to yours; check what is there. Local business links cannot be added through the Business Profile API or spreadsheet upload, so each location is done by hand.
Reviews are the other half. Google's rules forbid offering discounts or freebies in exchange for a review, asking only happy customers, or pressuring customers to write one on the spot. A link sent to every customer after the return is within the rules.
Common mistakes
- A booking page with stale availability. One double booking in August undoes a season of trust. The page must read the same calendar as your team.
- Quoting "from" prices. If the total appears only in a WhatsApp reply, the customer goes back to the comparison site that showed one.
- Hiding the deposit until pick-up. Show the amount on the page. A surprise at the counter becomes a one-star review.
- Undercutting brokers without reading the contract. Check any clause on your prices first.
- Letting requests wait overnight. The customer who waited has already booked elsewhere.
- Leaving a broker link as the only booking button on Google. Then Google sends your own customers to pay the broker.
