Personal Accident Insurance (PAI)
An optional add-on covering medical expenses, disability, or death of the driver and passengers in the rental vehicle, regardless of fault.
PAI is the optional insurance product that pays out to the driver and passengers in the rental car if they are injured during the rental — typically a lump sum for accidental death, a scale for permanent disability, and reimbursement of medical or ambulance bills. Crucially, it pays regardless of who caused the accident, which is what distinguishes it from third-party liability claims.
Most renters who already have travel insurance or comprehensive health cover at home decline PAI; renters travelling to countries with thin public healthcare, or those without their own travel cover, often take it. The margin is high because claim rates are low, which is why PAI is one of the more commonly upsold add-ons at the rental counter.
In renviq, PAI is configured as a billable extra at the agreement level — the coverage amount and price-per-day live on the extra so the renter sees an itemized total and the operator gets clean revenue attribution on each booking.
